"And the Sun Rose”—Knoxville College Launches 150th Anniversary with Spirit, Strength, and Support

Knoxville College launched its 150th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, June 22, at Greater Warner Tabernacle AME Zion Church in Knoxville with Knoxville College Day & Faith. The event united community leaders, clergy, alumni, and supporters to welcome KC President Dr. Rotesha Harris, members of the Board of Trustees, and the Presidents of both the National and Local Alumni Associations.

A powerful highlight of the program was the keynote address, “And the Sun Rose,” delivered by Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover, former President of Tennessee State University. Drawing inspiration from the story of Jacob wrestling with God in Genesis 32, Dr. Glover urged the Knoxville College community to “not let go” until they receive God’s blessing. Her message emphasized spiritual resilience and an unwavering commitment, not only to the future of Knoxville College but also to the continued preservation and strengthening of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) nationwide.

In a remarkable show of support, Dr. Glover led a spontaneous 15-minute fundraising appeal, generating over $25,000 in donations and pledges. Now recognized as an honorary KCean, she has called on all alumni and friends of Knoxville College to continue their financial support and to remain steadfast in the vision for the College’s renewal.
